2024 Scholar’s Dinner

In celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Tan Kah Kee, the foundation organized a ‘Scholars Reconnect and Networking Dinner’! We invited postgraduate scholarship recipients from previous years and this year’s to network, catch up, and enjoy a wonderful evening together.
Mr. Eugene Tan, chairman of the Postgraduate Scholarship Committee, began the night by welcoming everyone. He introduced the sponsors, Mr. Osbert Lyman (from the Li Siong Tay Charitable Foundation), Mr. Tan Keng Leck (from the Tan Ean Kiam Foundation) and Mdm Doreen Liu (not present) to the crowd and thanked them for their unwavering support.

Mr. Lawrence Tan, chairman of the Tan Kah Kee Foundation, was pleasantly surprised by the good turnout. In his welcoming address, Mr. Lawrence introduced members of the management committee who were present; Mr. Chua Seng Chong, Ms Peggy Tan, Prof. Wong Limsoon, and Mr. Jack Wang. He also mentioned that over the years, the foundation has had limited contact with our scholars. Therefore, the gathering serves two important purposes:
1. Provide an opportunity to reconnect and network; it’s also a moment for recognition and appreciation. While we celebrate our scholars’ academic achievements, we also want to show appreciation to our committed sponsors for their unwavering support.
2. We want more youth to get involved with the foundation. By understanding what we are doing and helping out whenever possible, we hope that some of them will eventually become future leaders of the Foundation.
We were also honoured to have donors share insightful and fond memories of their forefathers and also Tan Kah Kee. The night was complete with a wonderful buffet dinner kindly sponsored by Neo Garden.
Mr Lawrence Tan thinks that it is a wonderful event and expressed hope that such networking sessions could be held at least twice a year. For those who were unable to join us this year, we hope to see you at the next one!
