On March 22, 2024, the Tan Kah Kee Foundation (TKKF) hosted a book launch event for Ms. Peggy Tan’s new book, “Descendants of Tan Kah Kee & Their Stories,” at the Ee Hoe Hean Club. Ms. Peggy Tan is the granddaughter of the late Tan Kah Kee and also serves as the Honorary Secretary of the TKKF.
The event was attended by Professor Wang Gungwu, friends and family of Peggy’s, as well as committee members of the Tan Kah Kee Foundation.

Mr. Lawrence Tan Han Tong, Chairman of Tan Kah Kee Foundation, opened the event with a heartfelt address, expressing gratitude to all attendees for their presence and strong support. He highlighted Peggy’s unwavering dedication and meticulous work in collecting and assembling stories from numerous relatives and friends over the past four years. Mr. Tan also announced that this event marks the start of the series of events to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mr. Tan Kah Kee. With perfect timing, “Descendants of Tan Kah Kee & Their Stories” provides readers with a meaningful and commemorative opportunity to honour the legacy of this great overseas Chinese leader.

During the 40-minute presentation, the author provided an insightful overview of her book, introducing the lineage of Tan Kah Kee’s descendants and those who were influenced by him, including Lee Kong Chian, Tan Lark Sye, and Lim Nee Soon, as well as key historical events.
The book delves beyond a mere family tree, encapsulating the struggles and glories of individuals within the Tan Kah Kee ecosystem and providing valuable insights into the Chinese diaspora.
